Within 15 days of publishing my website, and even before my web host Hostmysite.com submitted it to search engines on 4 September, 06,  it had been  hijacked by two website hijackers; 

(i) http://www.xitinvn.info/  (No title on the page, but say that domain name registered by 123-reg-co.uk). "whois" gave the following information;

(ii) http://www.ginkz.com/.  Do not know who it belongs to, but "whois" gave the following information;

Registrar: TUCOWS INC.

Let me share my experience with you, which may be useful, if you are setting-up a website, and new to it. I searched for "Archana Painuly" on a few search engines to check how much reachable my  site is.

1. On Google, until  6th September, 2006, the search- listing showed the site title  (home page title), but under domain  http://www.xitinvn.info/. When clicked this domain showed up, but my site was not there.  This gentleman  probably put  up my site at this address  and then removed after getting it indexed by Google and others. This is because, I  could see my site  in  "Cached" of the Google.  Finally, it  disappeared from Google listing  on 6 September, 06. Probably re-indexing occurred (or whatever happened). I could see my site in Google listing under my domain name for the first time on  7 September, 06.

2. On Yahoo and Altavista, the site title shows up on search  but  under the  domain  name  http://www.xitinvn.info/. On clicking it goes to this domain, but site is not there. This is the status until the date of updation of the site on 7 September, 06. I could  see the site in "cached" in Yahoo. 

3. On ASK and SNAP,  the site comes up under two domains. Under my domain Archanap.com, and also under  http://www.ginkz.com/, who has hijacked the site. It is still there at this domain (until  the time of the site updation on September 7, 06).

4. Under AOL and Netscape, the site correctly comes under my domain name (archanp.com).

I did not check with more search engines.

 I informed my web host about the problem on 6 September, 06. I also requested them and some of my IT friends to let me know how to prevent the hijacking. From the information gathered from the web, I understand the site  hijackers do this to increase their hit rating. As a first time web site maker,  it came as a shock to me; how sick people can be to achieve these kind of ratings. I understand search engines such as Google and Yahoo do not accept submission of the same web site under another domain name, treating them as spam. So until these hijackers have left the site, and re-indexing occurs, my site will not show up in the search engine, where it is already indexed. I  do not know what search engines are doing about it.

Update on 8 September, 06

I added this page on 7 September and found today that www.xitinvn.info  was gone from Yahoo listing. It is still there in Altavista listing.  There is no other change. Funny thing is about http://www.ginkz.com/, which is  getting updated with my site updates. So you can see this page in ginkz.com site also.

Update on November12, 06

The website shows up on Google, Yahoo, Altavista correctly under my domain name. It  no more shows up on www.xitinvn.info  in Yahoo and Altavista listings.

The site still shows up only on  www.ginkz.co in ASK and SNAP listings (when searched under 'Archana Painuly Parivartan'). 

AOL and Netscape no more list the site.
